Anna Macknick

Picture of Anna from the shoulders up. Anna has light skin covered in freckles, short wavy dark brown hair, long golden curly wire earrings, and a black jacket on. Anna is smiling and a shadow of Anna's face is cast on the wall.

Hi! I'm a Linguistics PhD student at UC Berkeley and a language worker for Koi nation.

I am collaborating with Robert Geary of the Elem Pomo tribe to develop a community-centered dictionary of Xaitsnoo (Southeastern Pomo). I also am developing curriculum and leading classes on Xaitsnoo for Koi Nation.

My research centers on language reclamation, working primarily with archival materials.

I previously worked at the California Language Archive. In my position I focused on increasing the archive's outreach to Indigenous communities and making its website and catalogue more accessible.
